Aquatic Activities at The Covington

The Covington's Fitness Center is the focus of its Wellness Program. The Center houses state-of-the-art Keiser Strength Training Equipment, as well as a variety of cardiovascular training equipment, including treadmill, elliptical, and nu-step machines. Other cardiovascular options include an outside fitness walk and three-lane indoor pool.

The Fitness Center features a full-time Fitness Coordinator, educated to promote the wellness of seniors. Multiple group classes are scheduled daily, five days a week, including Low Impact Aerobics, Pilates/Yoga, Stretch & Balance, Aqua, and Assisted Living Fitness.

The Fitness Coordinator provides assessments to help residents set goals and monitor their personal performance. Personal training is available to increase and maintain strength, balance & mobility, and cardiovascular performance/endurance. Monthly fitness lectures cover various aspects of senior health and fitness.

Class descriptions:

Stretch & Balance 50 min- This class incorporates seated and standing exercises to increase strength, balance, mobility, and flexibility. Modifications (to make an exercise easier) and variations (to make an exercise harder) are possible, to make this class suitable for most levels of fitness.

Assisted Living Fitness 20 min- Participants perform strength, flexibility, and functional exercises in a seated position, focusing on maintaining and increasing flexibility, strength, and mobility.

Aqua Aerobics 50 min- This class facilitates a full body workout. It strengthens muscles, using the resistance of the water, while challenging bodies aerobically.

Low-Impact Aerobics 50 min- Approximately 30 minutes of cardio, followed by 20 minutes of strength training and stretching. Participants perform a series of easy-to-follow cardio moves to music, to increase heart rate, burn calories, and strengthen muscles.

Pilates/Yoga 50 min- This class incorporates Pilates and Yoga principles, with a focus on maintaining proper body alignment while simultaneously strengthening and lengthening the muscles. This class is on the floor, on a mat or towel. Once on the floor, residents stay there for much of the class.
